Harold George Woodward

Lenoir, NC – Mr. Harold George Woodward, age 92, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Brockford Assisted Living. He was born in Transylvania County, NC on May 23, 1920 to the late Ulmont Woodward and Catherine Douglas Woodward. Mr. Woodward was married to Hazel Suddreth Woodward of the residence for 73 years. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company as a burner and then moved to Buffalo Cove and opened Woody’s Trout Pond. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Bill Woodward and his sisters, Beatrice Duncan, Lois Helton, Mildred Looper, and Floy Watts. Other than his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Shirley Grigsby and husband, James of Roanoke, VA; son, Boyd Woodward and wife, Peggy of Lenoir; daughter, Judy Musick and husband, Glenn of Smithfield, VA; sisters, Faye Bumgarner of Rhodhiss and sister, Weyburn Neel of Hickory;seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mr. Woodward’s life will be held at Buffalo Cove Baptist Church on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Joe Helton officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the family cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Bobby Grigsby, Kelly Musick, Doug Woodward, Cody Woodward, Hunter Woodward and Luther Gragg. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 prior to the service.
