Harold Dwain King

May 24, 1934 — February 11, 2016

Lenoir– Harold Dwain King, age 81, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his home. Born May 24, 1934 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Dewey J and Ada S. King. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Winkler King. They were married for over 51 years. Harold was a member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church and also attended Sleepy Hollow Bible Baptist Church.Mr. King served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959, where he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was loved to share his stories of his time there, including the time he could come home in his 1951 Ford and the round trip would only cost him twenty dollars in gas. Harold also worked in Maintenance for the Department of Corrections, serving our county along with the surrounding counties including Mecklenburg County. He retired after twenty five and a half years of service. Mr. King also enjoyed gardening, going to car shows, and seeing his friends each morning at breakfast at Paula’s Diner in Lenoir. Survivors include his son, Todd King and wife Melissa of Gamewell. The special joys of his life were his grandchildren Hailey and Caleb King. He also has two brothers, Bill King and wife Linda and Rabon King and wife Irolee and his brother and sister-in-law Rayvon Winkler and wife Joyce and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to say a special “Thank You” to his friends that sacrificed their time to come help and stay with Harold throughout the past year; Randy Winkler, Steve Greene and Troy McCall.A service of Celebration honoring his life will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Stuart White officiating. Internment will immediately follow the service at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by NC National Guards & Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service.
