Lenoir – Raymond Harold “Pop” Ferguson, age 76, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born April 6, 1939 in Wilkes County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Minnie Billings Ferguson and the husband of Lorene “Peggy” Hendrix Ferguson to whom he shared over 55 years of marriage. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Porter, Joy Baldwin and one brother, Gary Ferguson. Pop was a man who truly loved his God, family and friends. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitnel where he had previously worked in the food ministry. He enjoyed helping others. His hobbies included watching football and drag racing. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Surviving other than his wife Peggy, are two sons, Tony Ferguson of China; Tim Ferguson of Lenoir; three sisters, Grace Walsh of Wilkesboro; Kay Dawson of Tacoma, WA; Trisha Williams and husband Roger of Frederick, MD; one brother, Larry Ferguson of Ferguson and two grandchildren, Michelle Ferguson of Conover and Tony Aaron Ferguson of Hudson. A celebration of Mr. Ferguson’s life will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, February, 16, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Whitnel with Reverend Steve Hedgecock, Reverend Stuart White and Reverend Don Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be: Tim White, David Welch, Caleb Welch, Kinneth Craig, Doug Hopkins and Jeff Johnson.
