Lenoir, NC- Mr. Harold Len Carson, age 80, of Lenoir, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 in the Charles George Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Asheville. Born August 30, 1932 in Landenberg, PA, he was a son of the late Jacob Brite and Ida Bare Carson. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lisa McCall. Mr. Carson was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed mechanic and attended Union Baptist Church. He was an honest man and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Nelma McCall of the home; 5 children, Lynn VanDyke and husband John of Maryland, Kathryn Mitchem and husband Paul of Texas; Jeffery Carson and wife Gail of Florida; Wesley McCall of Lenoir and Lisa McCall of Lenoir. He is also survived by two brothers, Jacob Carson of Maryland, Donald Carson and wife Barbara of Florida; Grandchildren, Amanda Horn and husband Andrew of Maryland; Kaitlyn Love and husband Dustin of Texas; Emma McCall and Erin McCall, both of Lenoir and Great-Grandchildren, Austin Horn and Ava Horn, both of Maryland and Kaylee Love of Texas. A celebration of Mr. Carson’s life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2013 at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Myron Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors. Pallbearers will be: Wesley McCall, Floyd Reid, Jr., Terry Reid, Patrick McNeil, Greg White and Tommy McLean. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Union Baptist Church, 4595 Union Baptist Church Road, Lenoir, North Carolina 28645.
