Harling "H.B." Buchanan

Lenoir- Mr. Harling Delaney Buchanan “H.B.”, age 84, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Shaire Center. He was born in Avery County on October 2, 1934 to the late Arlie and Ethel Johnson Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Grindstaff Buchanan and his brother, A.J. Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan was a long-time member of Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a devoted husband, father and Papa. He and his brother were Christmas tree farmers in Avery County; he loved to fish whenever he could, and he retired from Caldwell Freight Lines after more than 30 years of service. Mr. Buchanan is survived by his daughters, Reta Buchanan Laws and husband, Ray; and Mary Elizabeth Triplett “Libby”; granddaughters, Jennifer Buchanan Hair and husband, Ken; Kristie Laws; Tracie and Melody Laws; and sister, Virginia Keaton and husband, Robert; and brother, Dale Buchanan; and his nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Buchanan’s life will be held at Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Doug Woody officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
