Grace Frank Kilby Mayberry died on June 26, 2018 at home.She was born August 17, 1923 to Andrew and Grace Kilby in North Wilkesboro.She attended Salem College and during early adulthood taught ballet and tap in her dance studio. She married Lott Mayberry on December 17, 1949.They were the parents of four children who survive:Drew (Pam) Mayberry, Jan (Dennis) Huggins, Frank (Jerri) Mayberry, and Sam (Missy) Mayberry, all of Wilkes County.Lott Mayberry died in 1993.Mrs. Mayberry’s brother, A.L. “Bud” Kilby of North Wilkesboro survives. Mrs. Mayberry’s ten grandchildren are:Mac (Stephanie) Mayberry, Quinn (Laurin) Mayberry, Lauren (Kevin) Sayed, Abby Huggins, Andrew (Julia Sendor) Huggins, Erin (Nelson) Robinson, Megan (Jeremy) Turner, Brooks (Cassie) Mayberry, Victoria (Evan) Handy, and Gracie Mayberry.Six great-grandchildren are:Trey, Margie Lynn, and Emma Claire Mayberry, Lilli Dru Sayed, Nora Robinson, and Olivia Turner. Mrs. Mayberry was active in a variety of community efforts over the years.She participated in local genealogy projects and served on the committee that produced the “Wilkes County Heritage” book in 1982.Mrs. Mayberry, Nan McNeill, and Jean Kirby wrote and published “A History of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro 1942 - 1992.”She enjoyed travel and assisted with Wilkes Central’s foreign exchange student program during the 1970’s.Mrs. Mayberry was an avid reader and volunteered with the Friends of the Library for many years.She was also a Hospice volunteer during the early days of Hospice in Wilkes County.Mrs. Mayberry was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive on Saturday, June 30, at 5:00 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Parish House on Cowles St., Wilkesboro. Mrs. Mayberry’s children would like to thank caregiver Anita Turner and the staff of Rose Glen Village for their compassionate care over the past four years.
