Lenoir, NC- Grace Bennett Link Beach died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at her home in Lenoir. She was born on July 4, 1909 in Hickory, the daughter of Kenneth Amidas Link and Nettie Norris Link Courtney. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clarence Beach, her sister Elizabeth Saxon and grandson David Crotts. Surviving is her sister Peggy Gatling of New Bern and 3 daughters Martha Fogleman and husband Paul of Hickory, Caroline Bradford and husband Gary, Elizabeth Crotts and husband Charlie of Lenoir, American Field Service daughter Marketta Tamminer of Louiisa, Finland and 5 grandchildren Paul Fogleman III of Hickory, Philip Fogleman of Marietta, Georgia, Claire Bradford Coffey of Charlotte, Courtney Bradford Hedrick of Kannapolis, and Katharine Crotts Houck of Lenoir and 6 Great-grandchildren. Grace was also survived by 2 sister-in-laws Leone Anderson of Asheville and Thelma Beach of Raleigh and nieces Betsy Gatling Holmes, Becky Laney Saunders, Dot Laney Brandon, Diane Anderson Brasington, Susan Anderson Suggs, Jennifer Warren Greer, Pam Beach Nourse and nephew Ernie Warren.Grace Bennett moved to Lenoir at the age of 2 and attended Lenoir Public Schools with gradation from Lenoir High School in 1927. She attended Salem College in Winston- Salem and later graduated from Davenport College of Lenoir. Grace later served as librarian of Davenport College where she continued her love of books, reading and art. A life time member and Elder Emeritus of Zion Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ where she served as past president of the Women's Guild and Sunday School Superintendent. She was one of the founding members and past president of the Lenoir Service League. The family wishes to thank the care givers and dear friends especially, Gail Broome for their loving and constant care. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 27, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ, officiated by Dr. Steven Butler with interment following at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The daughters will be gathering at their individual homes. Pallbearers for the funeral of their grandmother, Gee will be Paul Fogleman III, Philip Fogleman, Bill Coffey, Joe Hedrick, Katharine and Chris Houck.
