Gladys Bowers

Gladys Bowers Lenoir- Mrs. Gladys Horton Bowers, age 73, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Caldwell County on May 27, 1944 to the late Larkin Horton and Effie Lipford Horton. She was married to Harold Bowers, Sr. of the residence for 52 years. Mrs. Bowers was a member of St. Paul AME Church. She worked for nearly 50 years as a registered nurse becoming specialized in pre-op surgical education. She was considered to be a great nurse and worked at both Caldwell Memorial Hospital and Grace Hospital during her career. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her sisters, Deloris Jackson (Hilliard) and Vera Myers. Other than her husband, Mrs. Bowers is survived by her son, Harold Bowers, Jr. and wife, Sylvia; daughter, Evely Streetz and husband, Damian; sisters, Virginia Coverson (Willie) and Mary Jean Dula and husband Billy Joe; brother, Larkin Horton, Jr. and wife Patricia; granddaughters, Nia Bowers and Sophia Bowers; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Bowers life will be held at St. Paul AME Church on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Dr. Byron Grayson officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
