Gladys Lee Bentley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 21, 2024. She was born on March 29, 1936, to Frank Miller and Josie Proffit Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Bentley, two daughters, Rita Faye Townsend and Rena Jean Cardwell, three brothers, Buryl, Denver and Arlie Miller and four sisters, Lundy Trivette, Minnie Alice Carrier, Mary Lou Miller and Evon Miller.
Mrs. Bentley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. As one of eleven children, she cherished her siblings and helped them in any way that she could. Mrs. Bentley never had much materially but she and her husband always provided for her family and others. She always found a way to accomplish what she needed to do and she did so in a very humble way. She loved to cook for family and friends and was known for scrumptious and elaborate Sunday afternoon dinners. She loved the outdoors and always had a beautiful flower garden. Mrs. Bentley was quite artistic and loved making things with her hands. She was of the Baptist faith and loved worshipping her Lord. As her health failed, she looked forward to the day when she would be in heaven with Jesus and her family who had gone before her.
Gladys is survived by three sons, William (Mary), Ronnie (Brenda), and Lonnie (Kathy), and one daughter, Ivey Bentley (Mike Floroff), twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Lula Faye Trivette, Gertrude Flannery and JoAnn Flannery.
There will be a graveside service for Mrs. Bentley on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Miller Family Cemetery in Fleetwood, NC.
The casket will be opened for family and friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Rev. William Kanupp will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Amorem, 526 Pine Mountain Road, Hudson, NC 28638.
