Gertrude Tolley Murphy

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Gertrude Tolley Murphy, age 82, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice &Palliative Care. She was born in Yancey County on June 15, 1931 to the late Malley Tolley and Etta Garland Tolley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Reece Murphy; brother, Sanders Tolley; sisters, Pauline Adkins, Atlas Adkins and Rosalee Blake; son Dillon Murphy; and great-grandson, Lucas Odell Murphy. Mrs. Murphy is survived by her son, Odell Murphy; daughters, Edelene Hensley and Madelene Miller; sister, Bernice Murphy; brothers, Forest Tolley and Royce Tolley; grandchildren, Lynn Holder, Robyn Williams, Dustin Murphy, Lisa Douglas, Rick Murphy, Jeff Murphy, Angie Murphy; step-grandchildren, Bambi Austin, Shane Glover, and Travis Glover; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Murphy̢۪s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Kenneth Poarch and Pastor Tony Harris officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 prior to the service.
