George Washington Boutwell

Lenoir, NC - George Washington Boutwell, Jr. died September 18, 2011 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. George was born November 12, 1939 in Lenoir, N.C. He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Boutwell, and his mother, Corinne Eller Bost Boutwell, as well as his infant son, Timothy Wayne Boutwell. George graduated from Lenoir High School in 1959. He was actively involved in the community as a coach for Bunny Maynard, Lenoir recreation department, Lenoir Little League and Lenoir Jaycees. George attended First Baptist Church of Lenoir, where he sang in the choir and he also participated in the Community Music Club activities. George will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Mary Sue Proffit Boutwell, as well as his son George W. Boutwell, III, his daughter-in-law, Robin Eller Boutwell, and his grandson, Nicholas Anderson Boutwell of Warner Robins, Georgia. In addition to his sister, Betty Ann Bost Eads of Manikin Sabot, VA and sister-in-law Jean Bost of Charlotte, George is survived by his brother-in-law John Proffit and wife, Doris of Marietta, Georgia, and their children, Jay Proffit, Jennifer Swift, and Christy Ottaviano; his sister-in-law Gwendolyn Teague, and her children, Jason and Michael Teague. The family would like to express their appreciation for all the support by their many friends, the medical staff at Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Drs. Theodore Yaeger and Richard Orlowski and their staffs, Caldwell Oncology, and the caring staff of Caldwell Hospice. The funeral service and burial will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 21 at 11:00 am with Dr. David Smith officiating.
