Geater Powell

Geater McQuire Powell, age 79, of Lenoir passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at his residence.

He is the son of the late Carley Moore and Ruby and Frank Dula. Geater cherished family and his role as big brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin. He was a member of the former Harper’s Chapel UMC (now known as New Covenant UMC), where he served in numerous roles. His most cherished role was president of the Men's Choir for many years.

He worked as a bartender, carpenter, handyman and even owned his own painting business. He loved people and loved making them happy.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Marlon Powell (Adonya), Carla Powell Patterson (Verdell), and Joy Powell Grandy (Billy) all of Lenoir, NC; brothers, Billy Powell, Garry Dula (Cherry), Larry Dula (Selena) all of Lenoir, NC, James Emory Dula of Fort Knox, KY, Clifton Dula and Jerry Dula (Priscilla) of Charlotte, NC, and precious sister, Erma (Candy) Dula Kincaid of Atlanta, GA; five grandsons; five grand daughters; twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at New Covenant United Methodist Church, 426 Woodsway Lane, Lenoir, NC 28645. Receiving will be 1:00 pm and service will begin at 2:00 pm.
