Lenoir – Gary Thomas Sanders, age 58, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle. He was born in Caldwell County on December 28, 1959 to the late Pete and Elsie Sanders. Gary was happily married to Rhonda Reynolds for the past 12 years and was the proud father of their blended family. He loved every second spent with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kary Sanders and partner, Kyle Greer; sons, Jacob Sanders; Troy Reynolds and wife, Ginger; Trent Reynolds and fiancée, Miranda Pendergrass; brothers, Ned Sanders and wife, Wilma; Richard Sanders and wife, Lynne; sisters, Peggy Isaacs; Vicki Wedding and husband, Rob; grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary retired after 30 years with the Lenoir Fire Department. Like most firefighters, Gary worked several different jobs over the years, from teaching future truck drivers at CCC&TI to selling cars. After retirement he worked for JKS Motorsports and was most recently employed with McGee Crating. Gary was a volunteer firefighter at Valmead Fire Department and an active member at Waterlife Church, where he served on the Safety Team. Gary held the office of State Vice-President with the Red Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club, including membership in their local chapter, NCRKChapterXX serving as Road Captain. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Firefighter Honors.
