Gary Joe Laxton, born October 2, 1947 has fulfilled his life’s purpose, and on June 29, 2022 went on to be with family who went before him including his father Conrad Laxton, his mother Margaret Lockhart Laxton Jett Lockner and his brother Terry C. Laxton. Although he had a rough childhood, he became a hero to so many, both with the care of his family and in service to his country. As a Navy Corpsman he worked to save lives during Vietnam. He finished his 20 years of Naval Service at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Gary leaves behind his wife of 50 years Paula, a daughter Shannon Little and her significant other Ronnie Cochran, a son Bradley and wife Shannon and their children Paula Marie and Eric. He is also survived by his sister Janice Miller of Lenoir and her son Travis and wife Sonya and their children Luke, Lea, and Laban. Also survived by sisters Ann Clark of West Jefferson, Linda Jett of Newton and Becky Welch of Nashville, Tennessee. The United States Navy will conduct a burial at sea, leaving port from Norfolk, Virginia, where Gary had been stationed. A memorial service will be held on August 6 at Amazing Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4648 Grace Chapel Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630, with visitation at 1:00pm and the service at 2:00pm.
