Mr. Fred E. Suddreth, Sr., of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, N.C. following declining health. Fred was born on April 1, 1934, in Caldwell County to the late Robert Suddreth, Sr. and Ila Becknell.He was a lifelong member of St. Paul AME Church in Lenoir where he served on the Board of Stewards and sang in the Men’s choir.He retired from Caldwell Memorial Hospital after 34 years, where he worked as a histologist in the Pathology Department.A veteran of the United States Army he received an honorable discharge and was awarded the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals.He was a member of The Pride of Caldwell Lodge N. 713, Lenoir, Prince Hall Affiliated, where he was elected to receive the honorary 32nd degree appointment.Fred enjoyed playing and watching golf, cards and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marjorie Scott Suddreth, and six siblings, Alice Mae Davenport (Gene), Robert Daniel Suddreth (Geraldine), Etta Suddreth Steed (Robert), Faye Suddreth Helton (Roy), Glorine Suddreth Rowe (William), and Myrtle Suddreth Holman (Cecil). Survivors include his children, Fred Edward Suddreth, Jr. (Roberta), Greensboro, N.C., Lucy D. Suddreth, Charlotte, N.C., and Jerrell M. Suddreth, N. Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Brea Suddreth, Greensboro, Jerrell Suddreth (Courtney), Lenoir, Justin Suddreth and Jarrod Suddreth, (Chapel Hill); three great grandchildren, Abyzera Suddreth, Chelzea Mitchell Suddreth and Ares Suddreth; sisters-in-law Barbara Dixon, Lenoir, Betty J. Harbison (Los Angeles),and Geraldine Suddreth, Hickory; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019, 2 p.m., at St. Paul AME Church, Lenoir, with Rev. Kim Moss officiating. Interment will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
