Frances Marie Hartley Poarch, age 86, of Morganton passed away Monday September 6, 2021. She was born on February 23, 1935, in Caldwell County to the late Arthur Lee and Maggie Norris Hartley. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jesse Ronald Poarch and nine brothers. Survivors include her sons Greg Poarch and wife Kathy and Eddie Poarch and wife Johnna, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her brother Earl Hartley, cousin Marlene Hartley, and several sisters-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews. Frances worked for Shadowline, Chesterfield School, and World of Apparel. Her true love was cooking in her kitchen. She always made sure everyone had plenty to eat and there was always room for “one more bite.” She was nicknamed “Little Italian Mama” for her famous spaghetti. She always had some kind of dessert to offer to anyone that stopped by her house and she could whip up a meal in no time. Maw Maw loved the slumber party guests that Melissa would have over for a Saturday brunch. She was a great homemaker and loved her house. Even though she was not able to be at home she would always ask, “How’s my house?” She had a favorite saying that we heard a lot, “Smell the roses.” She always reminded us that life is short and that your kids and grandkids grow up so fast and not to get caught up in the fast pace of life. Always take time to smell the roses because they are only here for a short time. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Hartland Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Todd Smith and Dr. Steve Parker with an inurnment to follow the service in the church cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Hartland Baptist Church, 3730 Hartland Road Morganton, NC 28655.
