Floyd "Dana" Townsend

June 26, 1941 — December 4, 2023

Dana Townsend, 82, of Lenoir, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Amorem Hospice in Hudson.

Dana was born June 26, 1941 in Watauga to the late Allen and Eva Townsend.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Rachel Townsend; his daughter, Vicki Brown (Perry); son, Wayne Townsend; grand-daughter, Heather Gryder (Justin); Great-Grandchildren, Sawyer and Lily Gryder; brothers Glen Townsend, Buddy Townsend (Daphene), David Townsend (Darlene); sisters, Barbara Wheeler, Pat Greene and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dana was an Army Veteran serving in the 3rd Armored Division in Germany.  He served in law enforcement for over 30 years.  He started with Lenoir Police Department as a patrolman and advanced to Lt Detective.  Dana served as the Chief Deputy for 8 years in Watauga County.  Dana retired from the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department as Captain over the Civil Division.

He spent his retirement with special friends in the Bojangles “Coffee Club”.  He enjoyed his retirement job at Driven where he would travel to pick up and deliver cars.  He also loved trout fishing any chance he had.  Dana loved his family and enjoyed his time with his grandbabies.  He was a good man and a wonderful friend loved by many.

The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amorem Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans.  A memorial service to celebrate Dana’s life will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans with Preacher Reggie Wallin officiating.

Miliary Honors will be provided by the Army National Guard and by the Caldwell County Honor Guard.
