Ferdinand Burleigh

Mr. Ferdinand Isaiah Burleigh, II, age 67, of Lenoir passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Born March 25, 1955 in Denver, Colorado, Ferdinand was a son of the late Ferdinand Burleigh, Sr. and Donie Blackwell Burleigh.  Ferdinand was an avid fisherman and loved cooking. He will be remembered as a giving man having helped organizations such as the NAACP, the local Women’s Shelter and programs for children.  He loved watching football, especially the 49’ers and the Raiders.  Ferdinand became a registered member of the Nation of Islam in 1997 and was known as Ferdinand X. Ferdinand was a Marine veteran and retired after 20 plus years of service. He was employed as an electrician at Woodgrain Millworks for several years. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Sharon Burleigh and Fannie Burleigh.

Survivors include his wife, Jessica L. Reaves; a son, Jibril Sa’id Burleigh; he is also survived by numerous other relatives.

A celebration of Ferdinand’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Student Minister Corey Muhammad officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
