Eunice Haas Squires

Hudson, NC- On the evening of Monday, May 23, 2011, Eunice Emma Haas Squires, age 83, of Lenoir Park Assisted Living in Lenoir, went peacefully to her eternal home in Heaven. She left this world with confidence in her faith in Jesus Christ, Her Savior. Eunice was born on June 12, 1927 in Hudson, North Carolina to John E. and Viola Miller Haas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard G. Squires, her son, Alan G. Squires, her granddaughter, Myranda Renee Davis, her brother Parks Haas, and her sister Ruth Havnaer. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Virgie Bumgarner Myers of Granite Falls and Mrs. Ethel Arney of Hudson, and a brother, Edgar Haas, and wife, Melba of Hudson, and a sister in law, Allene Haas of Lenoir. She has a daughter, Myra Zuber and husband Richard, a grandson, Michael Christopher Davis, and a granddaughter, Meredith Alana Davis of El Paso, TX. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and fellow church members. Eunice graduated from Hudson High School in 1944. She attended Gardner-Webb College at Boiling Springs, NC in 1951 – 1952 and graduated from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN in 1954. Through a classmate there, she met her husband. After their 1954 marriage, she lived for 54 years in the Wilmington/Carolina Beach area where she taught school, worked as a welfare case worker, church secretary, director of religious education and was a homemaker. She has many friends and extended family members in the coastal area of NC and left a loving congregation at Whispering Pines Baptist Church in Wilmington. When two of her nieces, Rachel Havnaer Haggist and Anita M. Haas, moved her back home to Hudson in early 2009 she reconnected with her childhood church home at Poovey’s Chapel. A time of visitation with family and friends will be at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church at 11:00 on Thursday, May 26, 2011 followed by a funeral service at 12:00 and concluded with burial in the church cemetery.
