Lenoir, NC- Mr. Eugene McKinley Younce, 79, known by his friends and family as “Brudgeâ€, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mozelle; his two children and their spouses, Mark and Cindy Younce and Jon and Naomi Younce; Grandchildren, Mary Catherine, Jacob, Ray and Jon Michael Younce, all of Lenoir. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. and Nellie Lewis Younce, three brothers, Tommy, Ray and George Younce and one sister, Ruby Hamby. Mr. Younce was a US Veteran in the 82nd Airborne. He served in Japan in 1946. When Brudge returned from the military, he completed his education. In the summer, Brudge served as Lenoir’s first lifeguard. He was a faithful member of First Advent Christian Church for 60 years, where he served as an elder, deacon and sang in the choir. Brudge was a man who feared God and loved life. He will be greatly missed. Anyone who knew Brudge loved him and enjoyed being with him. He was always entertaining children with his pet rabbit or rat that he would fashion out of a handkerchief. Brudge’s life long friend, Raymond Triplett said, “If the whole world was full of people like Brudge, what a wonderful world it would be.†The service is being held at First Advent Christian Church in Lenoir on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Robert Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 until 2 prior to the service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
