Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Ethel Lucinda Witherspoon Patterson departed this life on November 19, 2011. She passed on at her home on Wilson Street in Lenoir. Ethel was born in Caldwell County on November 30, 1914 to the late Laddie Morehead Witherspoon and the late Sarah Williams Witherspoon. Ethel grew up in the Yadkin Valley and was a lifelong resident of Caldwell County. She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings, her husband, the late Tyson Patterson; a daughter, the late Peggy Anne Jones of Lenoir; a grandson, the late Chong Hing Dan of Philadelphia, PA; and a niece, the late Diane Hart of Lenoir. She was a kind woman to those who knew her; she loved beautiful flowers and grew many during her lifetime. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking. She loved her grandchildren. She loved dancing around the house. She was also witty and was known to make people laugh. She was loved and admired by children in the neighborhood where she lived and was affectionately known as “Granny†throughout Caldwell County. She leaves to mourn her loss a daughter, Eleanor Dan of Lenoir; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; she also leaves to mourn her loss three nieces of Lenoir and two nieces of Hickory; a host of cousins, grand nieces and nephews and also great grandnieces and nephews and many friends. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend  Jimmy Norwood officiating. Interment will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
