Erma Day Helton

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Erma Day Helton, age 87, of Lenoir passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born November 16, 1921 in Lenoir, Mrs. Helton was a daughter of the late Thomas Everette and Lovie Andrews Day and the wife of Theodore Lee Helton to whom she was married 41 years who died July 18, 1985. She was also preceded in death by one son, Dwight Douglas Helton; one daughter, Hazel Pauline Helton; one sister, Mildred Day and two brothers, Lloyd and Claude Day. Mrs. Helton was one of the oldest members of Zack?s Fork Baptist Church. She was employed by several restaurants in Lenoir and owned a restaurant for a number of years. She was also employed with Broyhill Furniture until her husband became ill at which time she retired to care for him. She enjoyed cooking, sitting on the front porch and playing the piano. She mostly enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She was a kind, loving daughter to her parents, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family loved her very much. She is survived by six children, Paralee Helton Craig and husband Richard; Irene Helton Brown and husband Jim; Larry Helton and wife Linda; Roger Helton and wife Shelia; Harold Helton and wife Brenda; Lori Helton Crump and husband Roger; 15 Grandchildren, Kenneth Brown and wife Bonnie; Bryan Helton and wife Shannon; April Kemp- Moya and husband Carlos; Scott Helton; Crystal Helton Hedrick and husband Jeff; Matthew Helton and wife Hannah; Kimberly Brown; Kathy Brown; Jennifer Helton; Hattie Helton; Chad Powell; Mark Powell; Cameron Crump; Lisa Craig Krieger and husband David; Janette Crump Jenkins and husband Bobby; 11 Great-Grandchildren, Gabrielle and Christian Brown; Skylar, Bryanna and Jayden Helton; Zachary Helton; Madison and Megan Helton and Ashley, Dustin and Hannah McLean. She is also survived by one sister, Lois Day Marcus and a number of nieces and nephews.  A celebration of Mrs. Helton?s life will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Zack?s Fork Baptist Church with Reverend Jobie Borders and Reverend R.J. Lovins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Brown, Bryan Helton, Scott Helton, Matt Helton, Mark Powell and Chad Powell. Cameron Crump will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
