Emmett Stevens

October 29, 1935 — February 25, 2017

Charles Emmett Stevens, 81, of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Caldwell Hospice. He was born in Caldwell County on October 29, 1935 to the late Robert Stevens and Ethel Broyhill Stevens. He was married for 60 years to Jane Sullivan Stevens of the residence. Mr. Stevens was a loving husband, father and grand-father and great-grandfather. He was a graduate of Lenoir High School and Appalachian State University and in 1961 he and his brother Bob founded and operated Stevens Furniture Company. He once said that his greatest joy was coaching Bunny Maynard Football. Mr. Stevens was a long-time member of Zion United Church of Christ. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob Stevens and Tom Stevens. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Charles Stevens and daughter, Elizabeth Stevens; granddaughter, Allison Stevens Shaffer and husband, Bryan of Raleigh; grandson, Trenton Sullivan Stevens and great-granddaughter, Emery of Raleigh. A memorial service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Steve Butler officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
