Lenoir, NC - Elizabeth J. Lenfestey of 802 Chesterfield Circle SW, Lenoir, NC and formerly of Waynesboro and Chambersburg, PA passed away in her home with family around her on January 1, 2010. Born April 10, 1928 in Cahoes, NY, she was a daughter of the late Herbert G. and Vivienne Romain Gerding. Elizabeth was a member of St. Mary?s Episcopal Church in Waynesboro, PA. She graduated from Rumson High School in New Jersey in 1946. She worked at Guarantee Trust Bank in New York City where Elizabeth met her husband, Frank J. Lenfestey and whom she married on April 30, 1948. Frank died October, 1989. Surviving her are two children, her son Frank J. Lenfestey, Jr., who lives with his sister, Susan G. Lenfestey in NC; one grandson, Derrick J. Wolf and one great grandson, Owen Wolf. Elizabeth dedicated her life to her family and in advocating strongly for those with developmental disabilities. She was instrumental in starting special education classes in public school systems and for initiating services and programs for those with mental retardation and their families. She was an active Brownie and Girl Scout leader and also active in her community. Elizabeth is dearly loved by her children and grandson. There will be no viewing, just prayers at the grave site located in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, PA, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 3:00 PM.
