Elda Baker

Lenoir- Mrs. Elda Johnson Baker, age 98, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, May 1, 2020 at her residence. She was born in West Virginia on June 25, 1921 to the late J.W. and Geraldine Johnson. Mrs. Baker loved the Lord and prayed constantly. She loved and cared for her family and was always concerned that they were all doing fine. She loved her husband deeply and she worked hard her whole life. Gardening and planting flowers were her favorite past times. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Thomas “Fuzz” Baker; her son, Thomas Baker, Jr.; and seven sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter, Candace Baker Poarch; grandchildren, Debra Hadley and husband, Roy; Christa Johnson and husband, Sylvester; Darren Poarch; Andrew Baker and wife, Kelly; Caroline Baker; and Carrie Bartley; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 with Pastor John Jernigan and Pastor Stuart White officiating.
