Elaine Gibbs

Lenoir- Mrs. Shirley Elaine Gibbs, age 68, transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. She was born in Caldwell County on November 18, 1949 to the late Thomas Howard Horton and Zora Carlton Horton. Mrs. Gibbs was a life-long member of Thankful Baptist Church where she sang in the Gospel Choir and Praise Team.Over the years she served in different capacities as she was needed. She was actively involved in her community. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Gibbs; brother, James Howard Horton; and her sister, Doris Horton Smith. Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her children, Kela Dawn Gibbs of Lenoir; Kirk Douglas Gibbs of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Brenson Gibbs of Charlotte; Kalisha Gibbs of Atlanta, GA; Kwan Gibbs of Lenoir; Nigel Gibbs of Lenoir; and Kirk Douglas Gibbs, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Adrian Carlton of Cherryville, NC; Bernice Carlton of Boomer; Janet Reid and husband, Harold of Lenoir; Naomi Miller and husband, Jeffrey of Taylorsville; and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Gibbs’ life will be held at Thankful Baptist Church, Boomer, NC, on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Monte Simmons and Reverend Jeffrey Miller officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
