Lenoir, NC- Edna Saloma Reid Cooke, age 96, of Lenoir, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born July 26, 1914 in Iredell County, Mrs. Cooke was a daughter of the late John Robert and Bertha Jane Austin Reid and the wife of the late Aston A. “Cooke†Cooke to whom they shared over 60 years of marriage. Mrs. Cooke was a homemaker and enjoyed raising two of her nieces. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and fishing. She and her husband “Cooke†loved and spoiled all children. Mrs. Cooke was a member of Union Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult I Sunday school class, WMU and sang in the choir. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Graham Boyd Reid, James Paul Reid, Don Avery Reid and Harold Austin Reid; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Johnson Reid. She is survived by one brother, Charles Hoyt Reid of Lenoir; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Harris Reid of Alva, FL; Josephine Bradley Reid of Charlotte; Blanche McRary Reid of Lenoir and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of Mrs. Cooke’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Myron Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 10 until 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service at Union Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be: Bradley Hollar, Chad Bolick, Alan Reid, A.J.
