Edith was a member of Enon Baptist Church of Valdese. She relocated to Koinonia Apartments in Lenoir and had been unable to tend for many years but was passionate about listening to the recorded sermons. In the interim she had attended Yadkin Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Lenoir. Edith was known as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, friend, sister in Christ, confidant, motivator, seamstress, gardener, doll maker, quilter, dress maker, costume maker, cook, and hobbiest of any item that represented love. Those who knew and loved her, will be honored to carry forth her legacy of Christian faith, unbreakable strength and resolve, determination, creativity, the ability to provide unconditional love and forgiveness, and a complete understanding of the blessing in giving.Edith was the ultimate and original “Make do Girl.”She exceled at making something out of nothing which was representative of her perpetual optimistic spirit.Edith learned to sew while residing at South Mountain Children’s Home where she mended and altered clothes for the many children who shared this home and eventually became her extended family. Those talents, along with her spirit followed her throughout life. Her family and friends will forever be inspired by her life and passion when they gaze upon the handcrafted mementos she so freely gave. Her love for gardening was symbolic of her love for Spring.Spring was her favorite season and as she said it represented, “new life, growth, and all of God’s creations.” She breathed a little spring into everyone’s day, every chance she had, by blessing them with the talents of her green thumb. If she touched it, it grew, if she trimmed it, it grew bigger, as did her love for you.A visit to the homes of her children or grandchildren would likely provide a glimpse of one of the plants nurtured to life by her love.In her final years she was known as the matriarchal “Queen Bee” of the home and garden. To know her was to love her and to love her was a blessing. Her family would love to carry her spirit forward by expressing our sincere gratitude for the love shown to her by the extended family she gainedduring her years at Koinonia and her Amorem caregivers. Melanie Price, Kristy Brown, and Kelly Mitchell demonstrated a sincere Christ-like love while providing excellent care and support.Words cannot express how invaluable your friendship, love, and care were to her and us.
