Hickory, NC- Mrs. Edith Leota Watson Lackey, age 86, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Frye Regional Hospital. Born February 2, 1927 in Deep Gap, NC, Edith was a daughter of the late Everette and Lousia Greene Watson. She attended the Calvary Christian Church and had worked in textiles for many years. She enjoyed cooking and working in her garden with her flowers. She supported Law Enforcement and Veterans organizations. She enjoyed collecting almost anything. Most of all, she enjoyed life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lackey; two brothers, Kermit Watson and Cecil Watson; and two sisters, Estelle Phillips and Frances Hall. Survivors include a daughter, Marylin Hardin of Macon, GA; two sons, Charles Lackey, wife Shelia, of Hickory and James Lee, wife Cynthia, of Lenoir; two sisters, Shirley Reeder of Raleigh and Violet Huffman of Lenoir; a brother, Dennis Rich of Lenoir; she is also survived by seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.  A celebration of Edith’s life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Calvary Christian Church in Rhodhiss, NC at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kelly Mathes officiating.
