Edgar Haas, 89, of Hudson, N.C., went to live in the perfect environment of Heaven on April 2nd, 2020 from his residence. He left this world secure in his faith in Jesus Christ, his Saviour. Edgar was born on March 27th, 1931 in a farm house in Hudson to John Edgar and Viola Miller Haas. Preceding him on his eternal journey were his parents, his wife, Melba Greene Haas, siblings Ruth Havnear, Virgie Bumgarner Myers, Eunice Squires, Parks Haas, Ethel Arney, five brothers-in-law, and two nephews, Alan Squires and Harold Paul Haas. He is survived by daughter, Anita M. Haas of Hudson; son, Keith A. Haas of Hudson; two grandsons, Toby Keith Haas and Tory Ray Haas of Lenoir; sister-in-law, Allene B. Haas of Lenoir; brother-in-law, C.T. Greene (Joleen) of Hudson; sister-in-law, Shirley Herman (Carl) of Hudson; sister-in-law, Glenda Little of Stafford, Virginia; eleven nieces, four nephews, and many cousins, extended relatives, and friends. Edgar grew up on a farm and attended Hudson School before being drafted and joining the Air Force from 1951-1955. He served in Texas and California during the Korean War Days, and then returned home and met the love of his life, Melba Greene. They were married for 64 years and 4½ months before she went to Heaven on February 27th, 2020, and left him on earth with a broken heart, and a constant longing to see her again. After his Air Force days, Edgar farmed and worked for Duke Power in Lenoir before having his own tree service. Later he drove a truck for Keith Haas Enterprises. From 1956 until 1969, he sang bass in the Lenoir Quartet with Coy Earley, Edna Greene, and Shirley Herman. Edgar helped several local Baptist churches with music, and had belonged to Poovey’s Chapel, Pisgah, Calvary, Setzer Creek, Unity and Fellowship. He was last a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Whitnel, N.C. His most requested song, and one he sang at many, many funerals was, “What Will I Leave Behind?” Edgar was just himself, and didn’t change for fads and fashions. He often used unique quotes like, “If that don’t beat the bugs uh fightin”, and “This world is so crazy that people will borrow money they don’t have to buy things they don’t need to impress people they don’t like.” His sense of humor, infectious laughter, and steel blue eyes will be fondly remembered. Well, Melba said for years that Edgar would be late for his own funeral, and now…due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he won’t be late for his funeral because we can’t have one! A private graveside service will be held on April 4, 2020 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, N.C. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time. If you want to remember Edgar in a special way, sing a hymn or listen to some good ole southern gospel music, and go visit him in Heaven when your life on earth is over Online condolences may be sent to www.evansfuneralservice.com. Evans Funeral Service is serving the Haas Family.
