Earl “Pappaw” Storie, age 87, of Gamewell passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care-Robbins Center.He was born January 25, 1931 in Beckley, West Virginia to the late Ralph and Aulena Storie.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Benfield Storie and his second wife, Betty Fox Storie; and one brother, Edward Storie. Earl has left a legacy of love, loyalty, dedication to his family, many friends, community, and profession.He began his career with A&P and retired after 40 years of service.During this time, he also gave back to his community through being a charter member of the Gamewell Fire Department, a past president of the Gamewell Ruritan Club, and assistant scout master of Gamewell Boy Scout Troop 1.He was also a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose of Morganton and also served with the 112th North Carolina National Guard Unit of Lenoir.Earl was a member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church.He had a love for camping, fishing, and hunting and shared that with many lifetime friends that became extended family throughout the years. Survivors include a son, Larry Storie and wife Pat of Hudson; two daughters, Sandra Williams of Lenoir and Sherry Norman and husband Stu of Arden; grandchildren, Chris and Amy Davis, Willie and Crystal Storie, and Annie and William Deal; great-grandchildren, Austin and Taressa Davis, Colby Davis, Brock Davis, Bryson Storie, Zeke Storie, Callyn Storie, Ava Deal and Ivy Deal; brothers, Romie Storie and wife Geneva, Ray Storie, and Jerry Storie and wife Martha. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church conducted by Reverend David Payne, Reverend David Orders, and Pastor Bobby Brooks.The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM at the church prior to the service.Interment will be at later date. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
