Lenoir – Mr. Earl Devon Pennell, age 80, went home to be with his Lord and loving wife Barbara, to whom he had been married 50 years, on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice. He was born in Wilkes County on May 20, 1934 to the late Reverend Howard Pennell and Carolyn Robertson Pennell. Mr. Pennell retired from Broyhill Industries after 43 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his son, Allen Pennell; one brother and three sisters. Mr. Pennell is survived by his sons, Gary Pennell and wife, Sylvia; Michael Pennell; daughters, Debbie Pennell and husband, Steve; Renee Prestwood; Angela Prestwood and husband, Sam; brothers, Bynum Pennell, Buck Pennell, Charles Pennell; sisters, Martha Haynes and Betty Church; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mr. Pennell’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 2:30 PM. Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Military honors will be presented by the United States Air Force and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:15 prior to the service.
