Douglas Wallace McCall, age 92, entered into rest peacefully at home surrounded by his children on March 29, 2025. Born July 22, 1932, Doug lived a full and impactful life, leaving behind a legacy of family, service, and community dedication.
Doug was a proud graduate of Granite Falls High School and Lenoir-Rhyne College. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Merchant Marine and as a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Professionally, he excelled as an Industrial Engineer and Plant Manager for Burlington Industries, later becoming an owner of King Manor Furniture. A respected member of his community, Doug volunteered as a board member for Bethel Colony of Mercy, offering unwavering service and support to many.
He was married to his beloved wife, the late Linda Sharpe McCall, for 54 years, a union that was the cornerstone of his life. In his later years, Doug found companionship with his devoted partner of nine years, Mimi Lupin of Austin, Texas, who brought joy and support to his life. He is survived by Mimi; his sister, Shelba Jean McCall Sherrill; his three sons, Dr. and Mrs. Mark Douglas McCall of Augusta, Georgia, Carey Scott McCall of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Richard Alan McCall of Lexington, North Carolina; and his daughter, Carol Ann and her husband Chad Walser of Grassy Creek, North Carolina. He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Erick McCall, Daniel McCall, David and wife Grace McCall, Mary Kathleen McCall, Connor McCall, Carley McCall, Alex Easter and his wife Maureen, and Lanie Easter, as well as a proud great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren.
Doug will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and commitment to those he loved and the community he served.
A celebration of Douglas’s life will be held at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir, NC on April 1, 2025 at 12:00 PM with a receiving of family and friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Belleview Cemetery in Lenoir.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Bethel Colony of Mercy in Doug’s memory.
