Douglas “Dougie” Clarence Gibbs, age 70, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on November 25, 1946 to the late Richard Gibbs and Katherine Suddreth Gibbs. Douglas was a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Boomer, NC and he played trumpet for the gospel group, “Anointed”. He is survived by his wife Shirley Horton Gibbs; daughter Kela Gibbs of Lenoir; Kirk Douglas Gibbs of Norcross, GA; sisters, Angela Wright and husband, Johnny; Eleanor Gibbs; and brother, Nathan Gibbs; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A celebration of Douglas’ life will be held at Thankful Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
