After a lingering illness and in faithful submission to the gentle call of God, Dorothy Fox Roberts Stephenson transitioned from this earthly existence to a higher celestial realm on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Lenoir Healthcare. She was born on July 26, 1924 to the late Johnny and Della (Hackett) Fox in Caldwell County, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons: James David, Roberts, Theodore Eugene Roberts and Peter Paul Roberts; six brothers: Coy, Hoover, Marshall, Ted, and John; and six sisters: Mamie Fox, Gladys Ferguson, Inez WItherspoon, Mildred Ferguson, Mabel Bowers Kirkpatrick and Flora Gary. Dorothy worked as a custodian in the Caldwell County School System for many years, having worked at Lenoir Junior High School, Willow Street Middle School and William Lenoir Middle School. After retirement, she became Manager of the Blue Ridge Community Action Nutrition Program at the Martin Luther King Center. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Paul A. M. E. Church where she served in many auxiliaries and organizations. She especially loved to sing in the choir. She is fondly remembered for the cakes, chicken pies, yeast rolls, fried apple pies, etc. that she lovingly prepared for family and friends. Her life will be forever implanted in the hearts and minds of her daughter, Barbara R. Smith, Lenoir, NC; sons, Charles Norman (Juanita) Roberts, Charlotte. NC and Billy Wayne Roberts, Lenoir, NC; brother, Raymond (Thelma) Fox; 19 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Homegoing Service is scheduled for Thursday, March 9, 2017, at 1 PM with visitation beforehand from 12-12:50 PM at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 443 Finley Ave., Lenoir, North Carolina. Pastor Rev.
