Dorothy Jean Sparks

Dorothy Jean Dula Sparks, 89, of Hudson, entered the pearly gates on August 14, 2021 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Hudson. She was born on August 29, 1931 in Caldwell County, NC to the late Mary and William Dula. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Sparks of sixty-one years; five brothers and three sisters. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist of Hudson for over sixty years. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Judy Brown of Lenoir; son, Gerald Sparks of Hudson; grandchildren, Michael Sparks (Lisa), Chad Brown (Angie), Casey Sparks, Amy Roop; great grandchildren, Kasey Lynn Sparks, McKaley Sparks, Alston Brown, Abby Sparks, Mya Roop, Maddax Roop; great-great grandchild, LiLynn DeBoard; sister-in-law, Lucy Dula of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 11:30 am at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Cemetery in Hudson with Reverend Nicky Waters and Reverend Mark Dula officiating the service. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street NW Lenoir, NC 28645 and Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church at 2822 Poovey’s Chapel Church Rd, Hudson NC 28638.
