Dorothy Mccall

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Dorothy Sigmon McCall, age 96, of Lenoir, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, January 18, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born March 23, 1920 to the late Robert and Mary Cline Sigmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Glenn Edward McCall; a grandson, Christopher Oakley; five brothers, Charles, Patrick, Richard, George and Daniel Sigmon; and four sisters, Pearl Pless, Ola Patton, Louise Martin and Edith Warlick. Mrs. McCall was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Whitnel where she taught Sunday School, oversaw the nursery department for many years and was very active in promoting missions for which she had a passion. She loved working in her garden, growing vegetables and flowers and had a fondness for collecting articles pertaining to historical events and human interest stories. She was a lady of great faith who loved her church and family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Geneva (husband Jacob) Rhodes and Margaret (husband Wayne) Barnwell both of Lenoir; two sisters, Peggy (husband Rowe) Mays of Hickory and Martha Jarrett of Lincolnton, three granddaughters, Cheryl Bolt, Alison (husband Johnathan) Edmonds and Angela (husband Josh) Craig; a grandson, Jeffrey (wife Lindsay) Barnwell; she is also survived by eight great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral Services for Mrs. McCall will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Central Baptist Church in Whitnel with Rev. John Jernigan and Rev. Ted Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Wesley Oakley, Josh Craig, Jeff Barnwell, Michael Correll, Johnathan Edmonds and Braxton Arnett. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 PM to 2:30 at the church.
