LENOIR – Mrs. Dorothy Ann Pritchard Byrd, 97, of Lenoir Park and formerly of Abingdon Road, died Sunday morning at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at Hudson. Mrs. Byrd was born July 15, 1914, in Sevierville, Tenn., but spent most of her life in Caldwell County. She was a daughter of the late J.D. Pritchard and Lelia Braswell Pritchard.She was a long-time member of Nazareth Advent Christian Church, Deerbrook Road, Lenoir, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years. For more than 15 years she was a foster mother, providing a Christian home for more than 20 children in Caldwell County. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Byrd; five brothers, Arlie Pritchard, the Rev. Ted Pritchard, Horace N. Pritchard, Paul Pritchard and Jack Pritchard, who died in infancy; and two sisters,  Mrs. Gladys Collins and Mrs. Mabel Setzer.Surviving are a son, Pastor Roger Byrd of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Teresa Shannon of Greensboro and Sharon Tetterton of Lexington, Ky.; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; 15 nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors. A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Nazareth Advent Christian Church with Pastor Scott Philyaw, Pastor Ken Pritchard and Pastor Roger Byrd officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Tetterton, Matthew Shannon, Taylor Tetterton, Andrew Shannon, Jordan Tetterton, Rich Shannon and Mike Tetterton. Honorary pallbearers will be: Madison Roper, Cameron Spencer, Kelly Spencer, Joey Finley, Tracy Spencer, Larry Richard Setzer, Jr., Carroll V. (Cary) Setzer, Jr., and Mitchell Setzer, Jr. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to: Nazareth Advent Christian Church, 3221 Deerbrook Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
