Doris Walker Helton

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Doris “Deanie” Walker Helton, age 81, of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born August 15, 1932 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Helton was a daughter of the late Henry Clay and Hattie Ora Goble Walker and the wife of Mr. Charles “Sonny” Ralph Helton of the home. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Allen Bruce Helton; one brother, A.B. Walker and 4 sisters, Agnes Smith, Lenora Braswell, Charlotte Fox and Faye Prestwood. Mrs. Helton was a member of Cajah’s Mountain Church of God and enjoyed her Saturday morning social gathering of friends at McDonalds. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed her dogs, Pepper and Sadie. Surviving other than her husband is a son, Charles T. “Tommy” Helton and wife Anita of Gamewell; 1 sister, Mary Kaylor of Lenoir; 1 brother, John Walker of Asheville; 7 Grandchildren, Wendy Suddreth, Chucky Helton, Raven Johnson, Bradley Woodie, Kim Bumgarner, Al Helton, Deana Holman; 15 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many other relatives. A celebration of Mrs. Helton’s life will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2014 at Cajah’s Mountain Church of God with Pastor Sam Abee officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be family members of Mrs. Helton. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 6:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service and at other times at the home of her sister, Mary Kaylor, 1606 Orchard Drive, Lenoir, NC.
