Doris K. Bumgarner

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Doris King Bumgarner, age 78, of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at her home. Born April 16, 1933 in Caldwell County, Doris was a daughter of the late Charlie Wilford and Myrl Beach King. She was Baptist by faith and was a member of the Clover Baptist Church. Doris loved camping, fishing, making gadgets and gardening. She was also lovingly known as “Pine Knot”, “Miss Puffy” and “Groovy Granny”. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Logan Bumgarner; a son, Roger Dale Bumgarner; a sister, Pauline Richards; and two grandsons, James Robert Bumgarner and Timothy Dale Bumgarner. Survivors include her daughters and son in law, Thelma and Tommy Pritchard of Lenoir, Rebecca Woods of Conover, and Hattie Bumgarner of Morganton; two sons and a daughter in law, James Arnold and Hope Bumgarner of Oak Hill, and Ralph Logan Bumgarner, Jr. of Lenoir; one brother and sister in law, Wilburn and Peggy King of Lenoir; two sisters, Helen Sue Evans of Hudson, and Mildred Johnson of Morganton; a special friend and caregiver, Teresa M. Shook of Morganton; even though they were not her children biologically, Doris loved her grandchildren as if they were hers. They are David Lee Roberts, James Arnold Bumgarner, Jr., Johnny Matthew Bumgarner, Kathy Marie Bumgarner, Bradley Tyler Bumgarner, Chadwick Tracy Bumgarner, and Alyssa “Sugar Baby” Taylor; she is also survived by nine great grandchildren and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Clover Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at the Sunset Cemetery in Granite Falls. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Evans Funeral Service from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
