Doris Elise Blackburn Shew

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Doris Elise Blackburn Shew, age 71, of Lenoir, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice in Lenoir. Born July 28, 1941 in Wilkes County, Doris was a daughter of the late Percy and Myrtle Reavis Blackburn. She was a Sunday School teacher at Exodus Baptist Church where her husband is Pastor and she was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Blackburn. Survivors include her husband of almost 49 years, Reverend James Hubert Shew of the Home; her children, Pam Barlow, husband Scott, Ricky Shew, wife Tammy, and step-daughter Teresa Smith, husband Robin; seven sisters, Janet Olson, Wanda Bauguess, Elizabeth Shumate, Kay Roland, Patricia Leonard, Jewel Kearns and Jane Riddle; one brother, Cleon Blackburn; she is also survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 1:00 PM with Rick Shew, Pastor Jerry Woodie, and Reverend Landon Rice officiating.  Interment will follow the service at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
