Donald Edward Jones

Granite Falls, NC- Mr. Donald “Don” Edward Jones, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Carolina Rehabilitation Center in Burke County. Born April 25, 1943 in Caldwell County, Don was a son of the late Edgar Lane and Cora Estille Sigmon Jones and the husband of Judy Barlow Jones of the home. Don was an active member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a member of the CO-ED 5 Sunday School Class and headed up the “Handy-Man” Ministry. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict where he earned a purple heart. Don worked in home remodeling and loved wood-working, building wooden models and taxidermy. He was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Jones and a sister, Irene Jones Miller. Surviving other than his wife Judy are two sons, Derrick Jones of Taylorsville; Ron David Moore and wife Tracy of Granite Falls; 4 sisters, Lucille Jones Floyd of Hickory; Edna Jones Borders of Lenoir; Dot Jones Teague and husband Herschel of Bethlehem; Margaret Jones Pennell and husband Solon of Lenoir; 2 brothers, Allen Jones of Granite Falls; Wayne Jones and wife Edith of Stowe, OH and 3 Grandchildren, Julia Moore, Matthew Moore and Katy Moore, all of Granite Falls. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Lower Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Braswell officiating. The service will close with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM in the Church Sanctuary. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don’s Sunday School Class, CO-ED 5.
