Dick Pope Granite Falls– Mr. Hal David Pope “Dick”, age 83, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on October, 20, 1931 to the late Ralph E. Pope and Georgie Hudson Pope. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Woods Pope. Mr. Pope was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from Reliance Universal in 1986. He was an avid bowler, loved to garden, and enjoyed motorcycles. Mr. Pope was an excellent crappie fisherman and perhaps was the best crappie fisherman to ever fish Lake Hickory. Mr. Pope is survived by his son, Walter Hal Pope and wife, Caroline; sisters, Doris Coffey and Joan Herman; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Pope’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Whitnel on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Hedgecock and Pastor Stuart White officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Preston Woods, Bill Barlow, Gary Johnson, Jeff Parham, Tim Alley and Andy Myers. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 prior to the service.
