Granite Falls - Dewey Wayne Mullinax, 81, passed away on January 7, 2017. Wayne was born on March 10, 1935 in Rhodhiss, NC, the son of the late Massie Taylor Mullinax and Corrie Herbert Mullinax of Granite Falls. He was also preceded in death by sisters: Pawnee Simmons, Flossie Church and Doris Mullinax; brothers: Mendel Mullinax, Massie Taylor Mullinax Jr., and Thomas Mullinax; two nieces and two nephews. Wayne is survived by his wife of 56 years - Nellie Smith Mullinax of Granite Falls. He is also survived by his daughters Donna Mullinax Swanson and husband Todd Swanson of Granite Falls, Debra Mullinax Cochran and fiancé Greg Sanders of Raleigh; grandchildren John Paul Cochran, Grace Cochran, Hannah Swanson, Andrew Swanson and Sarah Swanson; two brothers, Joe Mullinax and Kimo Mullinax. Upon graduation from Granite Falls High School in 1954, Wayne served 4 years in the United States Air Force and retired from MDI of Hickory in 1997. Wayne was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church where he was an active member of the adult choir, served as a Deacon and in other capacities. During retirement, Wayne served in the Caldwell County Veteran’s Honor Guard. He also enjoyed golf, travelling, and working in his garden and spending time with his extended family. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Union Grove Baptist Church, Lenoir, NC. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends between 1:30-3:00 pm at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Caldwell County Veteran’s Honor Guard, Inc., PO Box 702, Hudson NC 28638 or to Union Grove Baptist Church Prayer Garden, 1808 Union Grove Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
