Lenoir, NC- Mr. Dewey Edward ?Ed? Gentry, age 78, of Lenoir, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at his home. Born March 27, 1930 in Caldwell County, Mr. Gentry was a son of the late T.R. and Alice Parker Gentry. Mr. Gentry was a member of Setzer?s Creek Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Coble Dairy where he worked for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace Cheek Gentry; 2 daughters, Sherri Andrews and Sandy Nichols and husband Shannon all of Lenoir; 3 sons, Randy Gentry of Salisbury; Terry Gentry and Jody Gentry and wife Kelly all of Lenoir; one sister, Betty Crisp and husband Francis of Hudson; one brother, Sherrill Gentry and wife Evelyn of Lenoir; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Ray Gentry. A celebration of Mr. Gentry?s life will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Setzer?s Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Herbert McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 until 2:30 PM, prior to the service at Setzer?s Creek Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be: Larry Cheek, Russell Dula, Ryan Greene, Paul Ruppard, Terry Price and William Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dillard Greene, Howard Greene, Ralph Bryant, Claude Storie and Sam Sturgis. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Setzer?s Creek Baptist Church, c/o van/bus fund, 3163 Warrior Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
