Dessie Hamby

Mrs. Dessie Oralee Holsclaw Hamby, age 93, of Lenoir passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Trinity Ridge in Hickory.

Born June 10, 1929 in Caldwell County, Dessie was a daughter of the late George Cleveland and Annie Walker Holsclaw.  Dessie spent many years working at the Fairfield Chair Company.  Dessie enjoyed baking cakes and working in her yard, especially with her flowers.  She was a member of Bethel Advent Christian Church.  What she enjoyed most was spending time with her three great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three siblings, Pansy Walker, Cloyd Holsclaw and Paul Holsclaw.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Pat and Larry Andrews; a grandson, Clint Andrews (wife Stephanie); three great grandchildren, Gabrielle Andrews, Isaac Andrews and Carter Andrews; four sisters, Betty Holsclaw, Joyce Townsend (husband Ed), Sue Mitchell and Lois Watson; a brother, Tommy Holsclaw (wife Ann); she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A celebration of Dessie’s life will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Jim Lee officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bethel Advent Christian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
