Dennis "Denny" Waddell Mackie

Dennis Waddell Mackie 90, of Lenoir, NC passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023.  Born November 30, 1932 in Granite Falls, he was the son of late Paul Henry Mackie and Willie Mae Waddell Mackie.

Denny was a faithful member of Hartland Baptist Church. He was active in his community as a charter member of the Gamewell Optimist Club, Councilman for the town of Gamewell and member of the Blue Ridge Pioneers.  Denny retired from Bell South / AT&T after forty-three years of service.  He was a proud veteran of the NC National Guard, retiring as a warrant officer.

Denny was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Mackie, daughter Tamra Duncan and nephew David Mackie and survived by his wife, Betty Rose Mackie; daughters Crystal Mackie (Kim); Sonya Brookshire (Jimmy) and son Brit Mackie (Lisa); stepson, David Miller (Dora); stepdaughter Mary Wilson (Tres); nephews Joey Thomas Mackie (Leticia); Paul Richard Mackie (Pamela); niece Urlsa Vanramshorst; grandchildren; Sunshine, Joshua, Brittiany, Kristian, Parker, Shelby, and Owen; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at Evans Funeral Service, Tuesday, April 18, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a graveside service officiated by Dr. Todd Smith at Blue Ridge Memorial Park immediately following visitation.  Memorials may be made to Gamewell Optimist Club, 3351 Sheely Road, Lenoir, NC, attention Lori Watson.
