David Lary Smith

Granite Falls, NC- Mr. David “Mickey” Larry Smith, age 64, of Granite Falls, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 at his home.  Born May 4, 1948 in Banner Elk, he was a son of the late Thomas Isaac and Edith Ellen Taylor Smith. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bucky Smith, Oscar “Sonny” Smith, Richard Smith and 2 sisters, Martha Crouch and Lula Ann Smith. Mickey was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam.  He was an auto mechanic and had worked for Hammary Furniture and Broyhill Furniture.  He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Benfield Smith of the home; God- Child, Chastity Cozart of Hudson; 2 sisters, Sadie Smith Bryant of Granite Falls, Sally Smith Trivette of Banner Elk, one brother, Fred Smith of Banner Elk and a number of nieces and nephew whom he loved so much. A celebration of Mickey’s life will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Christian Fellowship Chapel in Granite Falls with Pastor Dan Greene and Pastor Clyde Bumgarner officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Granite Falls. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Christian Fellowship Chapel in Granite Falls.
