Lenoir, NC -  Mr. David Allen Pope, Sr., age 66, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Mr. Pope was born in Burke County on April 21, 1944 to the late William McKinley and Lucy Hargess Pope. David was the husband of Paula Braswell Pope of the home. David was a devoted husband and loving father. He was of Baptist faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir. As a life-long resident of Caldwell County, he enjoyed sports having played semi-pro football with the former Caldwell Bulldogs and played on several traveling softball teams. He was instrumental in developing the women’s softball facilities at Hibriten High School to help further promote women’s athletics. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Darrell Pope and his sisters, Hazel Pope Childers, Ruth Pope Church, and Frances Pope Harris. Other than his wife, he is survived by his children; Andrew Scott Pope and Ashlyn Rena Pope, of the home; David Allen Pope, Jr. (Todd) and wife, Tina of Lenoir; Deborah Lynn Pope Reyes, and husband, Cessa of Hudson; six grandchildren; Adrian, Anthony, Joshua, Jessica, Danny and Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Aven and Jada; brothers, Clifford Pope and wife, Pat; Floyd Pope and wife, Libby; John Pope; Cecil Pope and wife, Corinne; sisters, Irene Pope and husband, June; Ethelene Pope Hollar, Ann Pope and husband Roland. The funeral service for Mr. Pope will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Lenoir with Dr. David Smith, and Pastor Lynn Parsons, of Day Three Church, officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Laurel Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Adrian Villeda, Anthony Villeda, Joshua Pope, Danny Bolick, Jim Cooper, and Tim Braswell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Chris Cooper, Mark Braswell, Matt Braswell, Larry Joplin, Roger Poarch, Cody Poarch, and Carson Poarch. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 5:30 until 7:30 in the Chapel of Evans funeral Service. Flowers or memorials are appreciated.
