David Hodge

On October 11th 2023, Earnest David Hodge, of Lenoir, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. David, 67, was born the oldest of three sons on August 9th,1956 to Ernest Lee Hodge and Greta Dale (Kirby) Hodge in Lenoir, NC, both of whom will succeed him in death. His brothers Bruce Hodge and daughters Ashley Hodge and Brittany Greere of Lenoir and Kenny Hodge, wife Annita and their daughters Brittany Reese and Savannah Hodge, all of Hudson, NC will also succeed him in death.

On April 7th 1979, David married Regina Jones of Conover. They had two children. Their older daughter Amanda Hodge Shawver, born 1980, of Lenoir, married Kevin Shawver of West Virginia in 2011. She has three children Kaston Shawver, born 1999, Dalaina Stellings, born 2005 and Anthony Shawver, born 2015, all of Valdese, NC. Also, their younger son Philip Hodge, born 1987, of Lenoir, married Karey Rose of Lenoir in 2016. All of which will succeed him in death.

David was a loving husband, caring father, devoted son and a compassionate friend, but most importantly, he was a man of God, and loved Jesus with all his being. Most recently he was a member of South Mountain Community Church. Although he was never a preacher, he was a minister of God's Word. Throughout four decades of teaching Sunday School at Pisgah, Hibriten, and East Hudson Baptist Churches, he touched the lives of everyone who sat under his teaching. He also ministered through music as he was a talented guitarist. He played guitar for the churches that he attended and several gospel singing groups. David was a self-employed carpenter by trade, building mostly residential homes in and around the Catawba Valley. Like the structures that he built, his legacy of faith and love for God will stand long after he is gone.

Along with his parents, brothers, wife and children, he is also succeeded in death by his father-in-law Lawrence Jones and wife Patsy of Conover, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, two uncles and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law Ruby Jones of Conover, his paternal grandparents Fred and Lilly Mae Hodge of Lenoir, and his maternal grandparents Will and Carie Kirby of Boomer, NC and numerous aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at Open Door Baptist Church on Tuesday October 17th at 1:00 PM with Reverend Brian Gragg along with other speakers officiating. A receiving of family and friends will be held at Evans Funeral Service on Monday October 16th beginning at 6:00 PM. David will lie in state from 6:00 to 6:30 for those who wish to view and pay their respects. The casket will be closed at 6:30 for the remaining visitation and funeral service.
